Rocket wins AHL’s most unique theme night

The Rocket was awarded the honour of the AHL’s most unique theme night on Thursday night at the annual AHL Team Business Meetings, thanks to its old time hockey game.

For the March 8, 2024 game, the Laval Rocket and Place Bell were transformed for the evening. The goal of the evening was to take people back to the 1920s. To immerse fans in the theme, players wore uniforms inspired by the style of the era, a newspaper reminiscent of the 1920s was distributed at the entrance to the arena, and the entire game presentation look was adapted to celebrate this unique evening.

The Rocket also designed a logo that was a nod to two former Laval teams: the stick on the National de Laval logo and the L similar to the one on the Voisins de Laval uniform. Not only the jerseys, but also the gloves, socks and pants shells were all created for the game and subsequently auctioned off.

“One of the great successes of the evening was the involvement of our partners. Lafleur, of course, was a great help in making the match a success, as it was an official partner of the event. However, we mustn’t overlook the joint efforts of the other partners, who allowed us to use their old brand images, such as St-Hubert with the patch on the jersey. It really came together,” said Charles-Antoine Messier, senior manager of the Rocket’s marketing department.

A number of changes have also been made to the game presentation. Certainly in terms of graphics and video, but also in terms of activations. In addition, the Canadiens’ renowned organist Diane Bibaub enlivened the evening, while animator Olivier Duclos donned a jacket and a fedora. The pre-game video was also adapted to the image of the evening.

However, this isn’t the Rocket’s first award at the AHL Team Business Meetings, having previously won the title of Marketing Campaign of the Year in 2021.

It was one of 11 theme nights at Place Bell during the last campaign. The Rocket will unveil its schedule of theme nights for the 2024-2025 season later this summer.
